Damon Albarn Says We Can Expect New Gorillaz Material “Fairly Soon”

Renaissance man Damon Albarn has masterfully added a hefty dose of buzz to the new Gorillaz material whilst managing expectations on a release date for the material. In an interview with BBC 6, Albarn has talked up the material and revealed that it will be out “fairly soon.”

The technical non-answer really was all we needed to get us pumped for the new material. It’s hard not to be when Albarn himself seems fairly chuffed on how it’s all coming together. “I’m loving it and it’s getting there,” he adds.

Albarn explained, “Later in the year we’ll be starting to get the whole Gorillaz thing together,” going on to give us a timeline of “fairly soon.”

It’s been damn near 7 years since The Fall, so it’s hard to imagine where the fifth studio album from the project will take us. Albarn and counterpart Jamie Hewlett have kept their cards close to their chest.

Previously Albarn has commented that the record was sounding “really fast” and on his part, Hewlett promised fans the new Gorillaz album would be “really fuckin special”. He has set out a 2017 timeframe for the release.

Vic Mensa is also rumoured to be working on the album after he was spotted in the studio with Remi Kabaka Jr., the voice of Gorillaz’s fictional drummer Russel Hobbs.

At least now we know we can get excited. You can give a snippet from the interview a once over below.
