Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has declared that live music will return to the state from the end of this month.
“From October 30, live music is back. Concerts will be held at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, and gigs will return to smaller venues, like pubs or concert halls,” Andrews said in a statement posted to his social media yesterday (10th October).
The Victorian Government had previously announced that venues in Victoria would be permitted to reopen at limited capacity when the state hit the target of having 80% of the eligible population fully vaccinated, initially projected to be Friday, 5th November.
When that milestone was met, the government said lats month, indoor entertainment venues could house 150 fully vaccinated people with a density quotient of one person per four square metres. Outdoor venues, meanwhile, would be capped at 50% of their non-seated capacity, or either 25% or 5000 people if seated, whichever is lesser.
In his statement yesterday, Andrews also announced an additional $15 million in funding “to directly assist creative workers and organisations, who’ve been some of the hardest hit during the pandemic”. According to Andrews, the funding “will make sure festivals, performing arts and more can continue to operate and employ workers as restrictions are eased in the next few weeks”.
