The beloved Dan Aykroyd together with John Belushi’s widow are said to be working together to create an animated series that will see The Blues Brothers story live on. While now network appears to have signed off on it, the show has already got some reason feathers in its cap.
Other than being personally peddled by Ackyroyd and Judy Belushi, the show will feature original Saturday Night Live writer Anne Beatts in the writing team and Bento Box Entertainment have signed on for animation. You’ll recognise their handy work from Bob Burgers.
Set in current times, it seems much of the show’s humour will stem from the bros attempting to ‘get hip’ all the while maintaining their usual antics:
“The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America and utilising all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement – and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich,” Aykroyd said.
The series will feature legit music from The Brothers coupled with new tracks written specially for the show.
This isn’t the first time, though. Back in 1998 – two years prior to the reboot of the 1980 original – Blues Brothers 2000 featuring John Goodman, Aykroyd and Beluhsi had a crack at an animated series but never saw the light of day. They attempted once more in 2011.
Third time’s a charm!
