Earlier in the month, Dan Sultan announced a run of headline dates under the banner of Magnetic, suggesting that new music was on the horizons. Well, Sultan’s kept to his word, unveiling the tour’s namesake track.
The song (below) heralds the return of Sultan’s renowned blues rock sound, and features plenty of moments of sheer gospel greatness and a hefty amount of soul. Despite the gospel influence, Magnetic is actually f*cking sexy.
Speaking to Double J‘s Myf Warhurst today, Sultan explained that Magnetic “is about excess and that can mean a lot of things”.
“I don’t need to go into about what it meant for me particularly [but] the song’s about getting better – happier and more productive,” Sultan said.
“It’s been a big couple of years since my last record and a lot of touring and working, with A.B. Original and before that Hilltop Hoods… it’s just about being better to yourself.”
Fans can expect an album’s worth of these sexy, gospel jams, with Sultan currently working on a follow-up to 2014’s Blackbird with producer Jan Skubiszewsk, who you may known as Way of the Eagle.
Sultan’s been a busy dude, not only working on his own album but also aiding A.B. Original on their latest single January 26.
