D’Angelo Bluesfest 2016 Sideshows Announced

Sydney, Melbourne and Wellington residents rejoice as neo-soul legend D’Angelo is heading your way for some sideshows off the back of his appearance at Bluesfest 2016.

Kicking things off the week before Bluesfest takes over the Tyagarah Tree Farm in Byron Bay from March 24th – 28th, D’Angelo starts of his antipodean adventure in Wellington on the 17th of March as part of New Zealand Festival before hitting Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Saturday March 19 and finally The Sydney Opera House on Monday 21st March.

Currently touring his boldly titled Black Messiah album, and bringing his new band The Vanguard along with him, the shows follow sold-out dates in Stockholm, Amsterdam and Paris, not to mention his critically acclaimed US tour with Mary J Blige.

Marking his return to music following a hiatus of over a decade, Black Messiah has been hailed as a tour de force from D’Angelo. Debuting at number five on the Billboard 200 in the first weeks of its release, the album has just been nominated for a 2016 Grammy for Best R&B Album. D’Angelo also nabbed himself a nom for Best R&B Song and Record of the Year for the album’s track Really Love.

The shows will be his first Australian visit since his appearance at 2014’s Soulfest and judging from recent reports from his US tour, D’Angelo has tightened things up into a well oiled neo-soul funk machine, with The New Yorker likening him to James Brown and calling him a “funk-and-soul-revue taskmaster”.

Bluesfest 2016 and its sideshows are sure as hell giving us something to look forward to at the end of summer with shows this hot sure to keep temperatures and spirits high.
