Daniel Johns Shares Title, Artwork and Release Date For New Solo Album

Daniel Johns has sent a letter to fans announcing the April 2022 release of a new solo album. FutureNever is the album title.

It’s Johns’ first solo effort since his debut solo album, Talk, from 2015. The record will land on Friday, 1st April (unless, of course, this is all an elaborate April Fools’ prank). Johns is putting the record out through his own label, in partnership with BMG.

In the letter, Johns credits the recent podcast series Who Is Daniel Johns? with helping to allay the anxiety he felt regarding his music career. “I didn’t know that I needed that experience, but I did,” he writes.

The Spotify Original Podcast series traced Johns’ journey from an overnight teen grunge sensation to a frazzled 30-something trying to make it without his band, Silverchair. “The experience of the podcast has helped me make peace with my past and I’m ready to tackle this new world bravely,” says Johns.

The album will land in full on its release date, with no singles shared in the lead up. “The album is designed to be enjoyed as an album,” says Johns. “Call me a hopeless romantic but that’s the benefit of releasing music on your own label. Nobody can tell you what to do.”

There will be some attempts made to keep fans engaged in the meantime, however. Johns describes FutureNever as “an eclectic mix of music” made over a couple of years in collaboration with a few friends. He’ll slowly reveal who those friends are in the lead up to the release.

The album can be pre-ordered from FutureNever.art and pre-orders come with a link to a new version of Silverchair’s ‘After All These Years’, which appeared in the podcast. Johns calls the website “an evolving, interactive platform” with a lot of surprises to come in the lead up to the album. “I’m ready to have fun with this and I’m excited to do this together with you.”
