Undoubtedly one of the coolest beings in the known universe – Dave Grohl – has claimed that his band Foo Fighters have “never been hip or cool”.
In fact, he rekons the band are “totally Dad Rock”.
“You know the whole dad rock thing? We’re totally dad rock,” he said.
Chatting with Whitney Cummings on the ‘Good For You’ podcast, Grohl made the sensational claim, owning the fact that his band’s music have a lot to thank classic rock radio for.
“First of all, we are all dads, and you’re right, we’re a rock band. Look, I’m 50 years old, I have fucking grey hair,” he continued.
“But you know, the thing is, I have never considered our band cool, and I like that.”
With 1999 single ‘Learn To Fly’ now 20 years old, he said soft rock AM radio in the US was key to its success.
“We’ve just never been hip or cool; we just really haven’t,” he continued.
“I think that the reason why we’re still here is because we do kind of disconnect ourselves from the popular stuff that’s going on, but also because, what the fuck do we care?
“I just want to fucking play music.”
