Dave Grohl and Pat Smear have told Howard Stern they still meet up with Krist Novoselic to jam as Nirvana sometimes in a new interview.
Visiting Howard Stern’s Sirius XM show back on Thursday as Foo Fighters, Stern asked Smear if he ever wakes up and misses playing with Nirvana.
“You know, every once in a while, me and Krist and Dave get together and we do play as if we’re Nirvana,” he replied. “So I don’t have to miss it.”
He told Stern if they’re ever in the same town together they’ll jam together.
“Last time we did it at the house where we recorded the album…” Smear said.
“We actually recorded some stuff,” Grohl added.
Stern then asked the pair if they ever go back and listen to Nirvana.
“No,” says Grohl, straight up.
“No? Is it too painful?” Stern asks.
“Yes,” the pair replies in unison.
As the conversation goes on, Grohl reveals that the night before the interview he’d actually listened to one while in the car with his daughter.
“We were just driving around Hollywood. It was like 8 o’clock at night. ‘Come As You Are’ came on the radio and she started singing. She sang every word,” he said.
“I’ve never played her that record. We don’t talk about Nirvana. And she was singing every word of the song. That, that to me feels good.”
It’s a bit of a bittersweet, wholesome chat. Watch it down below.
