Dave Grohl Supergroup To Close Out 2014 Grammy Awards

A supergroup formed by Dave Grohl, Nine Inch Nails, Queens Of The Stone Age and Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham will give the closing performance at the 56th annual Grammy Awards, in LA on 26th January.

Reports Spin, thirteen-time Grammy winner Grohl is the supergroup’s connective thread. He has performed with both bands, on QOTSA’s 2002 Songs for the Deaf and Nine Inch Nails’ 2005 album With Teeth. Buckingham appears in Grohl’s documentary Sound City: Real to Reel, about the legendary, now-defunct L.A. studio where many classic albums were recorded.

“There’s nothing better than when the Grammys can rock out,” said Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich in a statement to Spin. “To have these artists all together on one stage, doing a number that, when they presented it to us, knocked us out, is going to turn out to be one of those Grammy moments that people talk about for a long time.”

Grohl is up for two awards at the ceremony, Best Rock Song for Cut Me Some Slack (along with Paul McCartney, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear) and Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media for Sound City: Real To Reel.

QOTSA are celebrating their three Grammy nominations for …Like Clockwork, which include Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance for My God Is the Sun and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Two-time Grammy winners Nine Inch Nails’ Hesitation Marks is also nominated for Best Alternative Music Album.

The supergroup announcement is another in a string of star-studded additions to the performance lineup, with the recent news that surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, will be appearing together, both to perform and accept a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the legendary band.

Other recently announced performers include Beyoncé and Jay Z, Metallica, Katy Perry, Robin Thicke, Lorde, Daft Punk, Pharrell, Nile Rodgers and more. The 56th Grammy Awards takes place on 26th January at the Los Angeles Staples Center.
