Dave Grohl’s Sound City Players No Longer Touring Australia

Sadly, it appears that Dave Grohl’s Sound City Players won’t be booking any flights to Australia, as Dave Grohl recently announced that the band’s latest performance at SXSW was likely to be the supergroup’s last.

As reported by Consequence Of Sound, Grohl took to the stage with his super-duper group at SXSW, informing those in attendance that the ensuing 3-plus hour set would more than likely be the last from Sound City Players:

“Unfortunately this might be the last night we’re ever gonna do this, so we’re going to have to make it extra long and extra special”

The announcement means that any proposed plans to bring Sound City Players to cities outside of the United States, including London, Berlin and Sydney, have now almost certainly vanished. For one fleeting moment it was thought that Sound City Players would play Sydney and Perth, but any WA rumours proved untrue when Grohl and company shut down Hollywood Blvd.

Maybe pulling together the likes of Rick Springfield, John Fogerty and Stevie Nicks along with former members of Nirvana and current Foo Fighters was too challenging to make the trip Down Under. Maybe the potential of a plane full of so many rock legends going down wasn’t deemed worth the risk.

Whatever the reasons, it appears Australia will miss out on this historic event. Oh, well – at least we have the Sound City documentary, the soundtrack Sound City – Real to Reel and Grohl’s SXSW keynote speech to comfort us until news of the next Foo Fighters album.
