Good guy Dave Grohl has announced that he has big plans for his horde of renowned musicians collaborating under the banner of Sound City Players. The outfit, which recently performed at the Sundance Film Festival, has had music lovers all over the world drooling, and we now have even more reason to do so.
Grohl, who took the reigns for not only the Players but also directed the forthcoming Sound City documentary, confessed to Billboard, “We plan to do shows all over the world. When I came up with the idea of taking all these performers to the live stage a few months ago, my idea [was] to have video presentations between each performance. We’ll have that at the next shows.”
The next confirmed date for the troupe, which features the likes of Corey Taylor, Rick Springfield, Cheap Trick‘s Rick Nielsen, members of Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Stevie Nicks and oh-so-many more, is at Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles 31st January, or so says Loudwire.
We won’t be left out of the loop for the doco either, with selected cinemas around Australia showing the film for one night only at the end of this month.
The film is said to capture the human element behind the rich musical history of Sound City Studios. Grohl explained, in some depth, the premise of the concept.
“I knew I didn’t want it to be a retrospective documentary, the history of the studio. [The story] has an emotion quality to it and it had some relevance… ‘Sound City’ has been home to so many influential albums, but also to so many beautiful stories about people and their relationships. It’s such a deeper story than a ‘Behind the Music’ that would talk about ‘Damn the Torpedoes’.”
Sound City will hit Australian cinemas January 31st for one night only.
