Megadeth mastermind Dave Mustaine has attempted to crush floating rumours underfoot, specifically speculation that his band are the anonymous outfit to whom Slayer frontman Tom Araya was referring when he explained that “one particular band” was preventing more Big Four shows.
“It’s not the politics between bands; it’s the politics of character in one particular band. We had an issue that came up on the New York show, which really freaked everybody out, but the New York show happened,” Araya told Gazette.Net, when asked about the future of the Big Four shows.
“I think, in all honesty, that was the last time we did the Big Four. I think another Big Four show might not happen. They could prove me wrong,” he added. Many in the metal community assumed that issues Mustaine had with performing before Slayer was to blame for the halt in performances.
“I didn’t say that [no more Big Four shows would happen]. I said that I’m not the one to ask,” Mustaine told the MetalSucks podcast. “I love Tom. I think that all the hardship that we’ve had has been really sad, because, again, the media and stuff like that sometimes,” he continued.
“There was things I did and said that caused some problems between Tom and I, and we worked it out,” added Mustaine. “I have no problem with him or Anthrax or Metallica, so I don’t know where that came from… You know, I buried the hatchet a long time ago with those guys.”
Megadeth will soon be in the country as part of the upcoming Soundwave 2014 tour, while Slayer’s future remains an issue of contention in the community, with Araya indicating that he’s unsure of what’s to come while Kerry King remains optimistic about the band’s new material.
