David Bowie has confirmed he is not involved in a retrospective display of his costumes at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.
The pop music icon took to his Facebook page this week to deny his involvement in the mooted project, which was reported by UK tabloid The Observer.
“Contrary to recently published reports relating to the announcement by the V&A of an upcoming David Bowie Exhibition, I am not a co-curator and did not participate in any decisions relating to the exhibition,” he posted.
The Observer reported the legendary singer would co-curate an exhibition of his life and work through his extravagant costumes, which he would hand-pick.
The story suggested the show would focus on Bowie’s rise to cult status – using the outfits to document his changing identity.
Victoria & Albert Museum Director Martin Roth told the paper of his respect for Bowie, saying the We Can Be Heroes songwriter is “incomparable.”
“No one has inspired the whole world not only in terms of music but also arts, fashion and style,” Roth said. “He created a vision of individualism for an entire generation.”
NME reports an official announcement from the museum regarding the exhibition is due next month.
