UPDATE 16/09/16: Skepta has taken up the top prize for his album Konnichiwa.
ORIGINAL STORY: The 2016 Mercury Prize shortlist is in, with a dozen worthy UK acts in the running for this year’s big gong.
Among them is a posthumous nod for departed legend David Bowie and his final album, Blackstar.
While other big names on the list include Skepta, The 1975, Bat For Lashes, Savages and Radiohead for A Moon Shaped Pool.
The list is rounded out by up-and-comers Anohni, Jamie Woon, Kano, Laura Mvula, Michael Kiwanuka and The Comet Is Coming.
The annual prize recognises the best record released by a British or Irish artist, and was taken out last year by dark horse former busker Benjamin Clementine for his album At Least For Now, which beat out tough competition from Florence + The Machine, Aphex Twin, Wolf Alice and more.
This year’s ceremony will be held on September 15th.
