A fact that causes great sadness for some is that the great David Bowie has not released a new album since 2003’s Reality. That’s eight long years. Now fans will be more alarmed to hear that it is ‘likely’ the Thin White Duke has already retired from the music scene, and that a comeback is not on his agenda. That’s according to Paul Trynka, author of new Bowie biography, Bowie: Starman.
Trynka has given an interview to Spinner, where he states that he believes Bowie’s hiatus from writing and recording may be permanent.
Trynka, former editor-in-chief at Mojo, said, “My heart says he’ll come back, [but] my head says he’s likely not to. I think he would only come back if he thinks he could deliver something that will be seismic. If you pop back into the stage, it’s got to be something that has a big explosion and lots of flashes. It would be a bit of a miracle if he comes back, but miracles do happen.”
Trynka’s book covers the entirety of Bowie’s career, highlights including Bowie’s first trip to America, his hearing the Stooges for the first time, meeting the Velvet Underground, and his autodidact’s struggles in learning the piano from scratch. And bizarrely, an early period where he was a member of the Small Faces.
