Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne has been announced as headliner of Hobart’s MONA FOMA festival in January.
Bryne, accompanied by New York singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist St.Vincent, will perform at Hobart’s Princes Wharf No. 1 shed on January 20.
With Oscars, Grammys and Golden Globe awards to his name, 60-year-old Byrne is best known as the founder of US new-wave band Talking Heads, one of the most critically acclaimed acts of the 1980s.
Since the band’s split in 1991, Byrne has released many solo and collaborative recordings, while also working on various projects involving film, photography, opera and writing.
MOFO curator Brian Ritchie was thrilled to have finally landed Byrne for the festival, which will celebrate its fifth anniversary in January.
“I think he’s the perfect artist for MOFO, because he crosses all these different fields of endeavour while always maintaining a freshness to his work,” Ritchie said.
The Mercury reports the full MOFO program will be announced on October 5. Tickets for all events will go on sale from mofo.net.au. Mona Foma is regarded as Tasmania’s biggest contemporary music festival.
