Deadmau5 To Play Ultra Music Festival After Avicii Is Hospitalised

Canadian progressive-house producer deadmau5, real name Joel Zimmerman, is set to close out day two of Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida after Swedish DJ Tim Bergling, aka Avicii was hospitalised with gall bladder issues. Avicii was set to headline the festival, and was also set to play at the SLS South Beach in Miami, but was forced to cancel both shows.

Billboard are reporting that on Friday afternoon the dance festival announced that Avicii would not be performing this year due to “health issues”, despite earlier reports proposing that he was still well enough to play. Bergling was rushed to a Miami hospital on Thursday with severe abdominal pain, fever and nausea according to a statement by a represetaive.

“[Avicii] has been diagnosed as having a blocked gall bladder and is currently being evaluated for a potential surgery to remove his gall bladder,” the statement reads. “He has had to cancel all his commitments for the week, including a highly anticipated performance last night at the Ushuaia Pop Up at the Avicii Hotel at SLS and his headline performance tomorrow at the ULTRA Music Festival.”

deadmau5, who is now being billed as a “special guest” by the festival, will close out the main stage lineup on Saturday night, which has included the likes of Alesso, Armin Van Buuren, Martin Garrix and Nicky Romero.

“Well… looks like my stay here in miami just got extended for a couple more days ;),” deadmau5 posted to Twitter on Friday afternoon. “Well, stranger shit has happened… thats for sure. but, glad i could help a friend out and be with my fans tomorrow night :)”

Avicii wasn’t the only DJ hit with health problems on Thursday, with Afrojack alerting his followers via Twitter that he was also in a local hospital suffering dehydration, and trying to “prevent an early end to this weekend”. He later shared an Instagram video telling fans that he was fine.
