We’re all still confused as to how Australia repeatedly gets invited to Eurovision but it seems Canada in particular has a problem with it.
Deadpool AKA. Ryan Reynolds has stepped up and taken on the role of calling Australia out for its involvement in the competition, standing up for Canada.
“We’ve been snubbed by that singsong competition thing you guys lose your shit over,” he said in a video.
“Our generous gift of Celine Dion alone should earn us an invite and don’t give me that crap about Canada not being part of the European family, you let in Australia and they’re barely on the planet.”
Ouch. “Barely on the planet,” is a harsh insult to say the least.
The joke is still on Canada though because we’re about to compete in our fourth Eurovision with Jessica Mauboy as our entrant.
She’s due to perform in the second semi-final and is tipped to make it to the final this year. Australia has also never placed outside the top 10 in the competition.
Canada has actually performed in Eurovision before, kind of. Dion performed for Switzerland in 1988, winning the whole thing with ‘Ne partez pas sans moi’.
Dion doesn’t seem to be too angry with Australia for its inclusion in Eurovision as she’s making the trip down here later this year to tour. Obviously she sees Australia as part of the planet, thank you very much.
