Dear God Someone Gave James Franco A Record Deal

King of the slashies, James Franco has just added another feather to his cap, that of recording artist, joining his alredy stacked collection of descriptors including actor, director, artist, poet and of course social media sex pest.

The deal signed with Kobalt Music Group is for his band Daddy, that he plays in with multi-instrumentalist Tim O’Keefe, and will cover the release of a full length album and film titled Let Me Get What I Want, the project largely inspired by seminal jangle pop group The Smiths.

In fact those sharp eyed Smiths fans among you might even have noticed that the title is itself a reference to the band’s 1984 song Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want. The tribute goes even further though, as it turns out that The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke will also be playing on the album, featuring on every track.

The album will be based on poems Franco has published as part of his book of poetry, Directing Herbert White:Poems, unsurprisingly from the specific sections named Poems Inspired By Smiths’ Songs.

With each track set to feature an accompanying video clip which when viewed back to back tells a larger narrative, the duo feels Kobalt is the perfect home for such an ambitious project.

“We are really excited to partner with Kobalt on our upcoming Daddy album and film,” the duo said. “Kobalt has the right forward-thinking approach to work with a project as unique as ours, where we see our work not only existing within the music realm, but extending into the film, art space and beyond on an independent basis.”

Stay tuned for more news on the project, although for now you can satiate your hunger for all things Franco and Smiths with this clip from the project, inspired by and named after The Smiths’ classic track This Charming Man.
