A woman has died and another was injured after falling from a tower at Roskilde Festival in Denmark. Police are still yet to identify the dead woman, but say she was between 25 and 30 years old with fair hair and of “Scandinavian appearance”.
Police are also yet to explain the cause of the accident, which took place at a tower near the festival’s camping area. It was the starting area of one of the festival’s rides run by a festival sponsor.
Roskilde spokesman Mads Mikkelsen said the incident was “very tragic”. As well as requesting help to identify the victim, police asked women at the festival to contact their loved ones, as they had been swamped with calls from worried parents.
The last tragedy at Roskilde was way back in 2000 when 9 people died and 43 were crushed during Pearl Jam’s set. “It was a terrible and tragic accident,” the Danish prime minister said at the time. “It is very difficult to put words on the fact that so many young people have lost their lives in such sinister circumstances.”
