In some of the most exciting music news to come out so far this year, Depeche Mode chief songwriter Martin Gore has told The Quietus that the band have started work on a new album, the follow-up to 2009’s unfortunately titled Sounds Of The Universe. Set to enter the studio on March this year, Gore also said that he hoped to have the album finished by the end of the year.
Gore also spoke in the interview about how working with former bandmate Vince Clarke again on the VCMG project helped rejuvenate his songwriting with the band. The duo who have been working together for the first time in 30 years on the techno-pop project, Clarke having left Depeche Mode after their first album, thrusting Gore into the role of principal songwriter, are set to release an album together titled ‘Ssss.’ Speaking of how the work helped energise his creativity, Gore said that “it was a nice break for me to be able to go and do something completely different that doesn’t involve poring over lyrics and having to think about vocal melodies,” he said, adding: “I think I went back to actually writing for the band with much more vigour afterwards, because I had taken such a break. It gave me a real creative impetus.”
