Dillinger Escape Plan Writing New Music With Kimbra: “She’s The Real Deal”

What does Ben Weinman, lead guitarist and founding member of American mathcore heroes The Dillinger Escape Plan, have in common with New Zealand jazz pop chanteuse Kimbra? Well, not a lot, really, but it seems the duo have come good on their promise to collaborate, with Weinman confirming they’ve been laying down some tunes together.

The pair have been faffing all over one another for a while now, with Weinman tweeting about the Somebody That I Used To Know vocalist being his “home girl” and even joining her on stage at the CMJ Music Marathon showcase at Webster Hall last year for her track Come Into My Head (below).

Weinman has now told FasterLouder that a collaboration is confirmed, saying, “We’ve been discussing some music and file-swapping, stuff like that. It’s just music that we’re working on together. Whether it’ll end up being on her record or whether it’s something else we don’t know. But it’ll definitely sound awesome.”

The guitarist doesn’t think their music is all that different, either:

“We do have a lot in common, our influences definitely. She’s someone who defies limitations based on genres. She doesn’t allow anyone to put her in a box or determine how she should make music. You know, she’s basically making pop music that’s really different and experimental, that was one of the things that immediately, when I first heard her, I really appreciated. There’s not that much creative, interesting pop music out there and she’s the real deal.”

No news yet as to when their tunes will see the light of day. In the meantime, tide yourself over with some fan footage of the duo making beautiful music together live.
