Following the news earlier this week that Geelong’s Tent Pole Festival has been cancelled for 2024, two of its marquee acts – Dinosaur Jr. and Calexico – have added new shows in Victoria on Saturday, February 17th (the date the festival was supposed to happen).
The former will play a second Melbourne date, going back to back at the Northcote Theatre supported by Stepmother, while the latter are headed to the Lorne Theatre on Victoria’s Surf Coast and will be supported by Melbourne singer-songwriter Al Matcott.
Each band will be commemorating anniversaries of classic albums – Dinosaur Jr’s tour is to belatedly commemorate their 1993 album Where You Been, while Calexico will use the Lorne date to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 2003 album Feasts of Wire by playing it in its entirety.
Calexico – ‘El Mirador’
As reported by Music Feeds earlier in the week, the second-annual Tent Pole was cancelled on Tuesday morning (January 23). The organisers cited “the current economic climate coupled with the difficulties associated with establishing a new regional festival” as their reasons for the cancellation.
Scottish post-rock band Mogwai were also set to perform, alongside Australian bands such as Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Our Carlson, The Belair Lip Bombs and RVG. Our Carlson has since shared on his Instagram account that he intends to put together a new show on the now-free date of Saturday February 17th.
