Nominations for the 2014 Brit awards have been revealed in London with English electro duo Disclosure and pop rock outfit Bastille topping the nominations list with four nods apiece. They are followed closely by pop singer Ellie Goulding and dance collective Rudimental, who each scored three nominations.
Other acts up for the prestigious music award are British indie darlings Arctic Monkeys who will fight it out against Bastille, Disclosure, Rudimental and boy band wonders One Direction for Best British Group. Indie pop act London Grammar received their first nomination, landing on the Breakthrough Act list while Lorde surprised no-one with her nomination for International Female Artist.
This year’s nominations are dominated by new acts with breakthrough newcomers Jake Bugg, James Blake, John Newman and Tom Odell all up against the legendary David Bowie for the Male Solo Artist award. Haim, along with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have been nominated for the International Group award, facing Kings of Leon, Daft Punk and Arcade Fire in the category.
Arctic Monkeys are set to open the February 19 ceremony which will also feature performances by Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, Bruno Mars, Bastille and Rudimental. It will be held at London’s O2 arena with comedian James Corden as host.
