Disturbed officially have the lowest-selling Australian number 1 album of all time, in terms of weekly sales figures.
The metal titans broke the record this week due to an unfortunate (or fortunate, depending on your POV) combination of circumstances following the release of their 6th studio LP Immortalized.
Due to their cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound Of Silence receiving a buttload of airplay on dad radio across the nation (plus probably some splashover action from enthusiastic googlers of “that song from Sad Affleck“) combined with an historically poor week of album sales Down Under, Dave Draiman & co’s new disc has landed back on the ARIA charts’ top spot despite selling just 2,140 units in one week.
As News Corp reports, as well as falling well-behind the 8,242 sales that snagged them the number 1 posish back when the disc first dropped in August of last year, the band have undercut former record-holders Bring Me The Horizon by a landslide, with the previous lowest-selling number 1 benchmark set at 3,600 album sales for their There Is a Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let’s Keep It a Secret back in 2010.
Coincidentally, both bands were featured on the now-cancelled Soundwave 2016 lineup, and have since announced separate Australian headlining tours for later this year – BMTH in September and Disturbed in November.
Maybe while they’re here they can square off for some other unfortunate record titles like “largest amount of chilis rubbed into eyes” or “least amount of screaming after listening to Starship’s We Built This City 200 times in a row”?
