Disturbed Say They’re Not “Sell Outs” For Performing On ‘X Factor Australia’ Tonight

UPDATE 08/11/16: Disturbed have performed on X Factor Australia — watch their full performance right here.

ORIGINAL STORY: Disturbed have crossed over to the dark side, and we don’t mean in a badass Sith Lord kind of way. They’ve signed on to appear on tonight’s episode of your mum’s favourite show, The X Factor Australia and fans are, shall we say, not completely down with the sickness.

After the heavy metal titans shared a Facebook video of frontman Dave Draiman kicking back at a Sydney cafe and sharing some sage wisdom about “representing for rock in a pop world”, ahead of their performance of their dad radio smash The Sound Of Silence on tonight’s big elimination final, some Disturbed Ones found themselves Stupified:

But Draiman has hit back with a fiery all-caps rant about why the band are not, in actual fact, sell-outs for going on The X-Factor, but actually rock n’ roll warriors fighting to get the proud genre the popular recognition it so deserves:

Reality TV talent shows like The X-Factor have been widely ridiculed by a variety of musical pundits, from Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl to Australian Idol alumnus Shannon Noll and — as recently as last week — Aussie social media LOLwizard Friendlyjordies, who have all basically accused the shows of being nothing but ratings machines fuelled by the tears and crushed dreams of starry eyed young musos looking to hitch the express train to fame, while plugging the careers of their all-star judging panels.

Anyway, however you feel about Disturbed’s X-Factor cameo, you can catch them live on tonight’s ep from 7:30pm AEDT appearing alongside Eurovision alumni Dami Im and Guy Sebastian, ahead of their imminent Australian tour with local legends Twelve Foot Ninja.
