Turntable specialist DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist have announced they’re bringing their co-headlining Renegades Of Rhythm tour, which sees both American DJs perform onstage together, to Australia in March 2015.
The tour pays homage to Universal Zulu Nation founder and New York DJ Afrika Bambaataa. As a tribute to Bambaataa’s impact and influence on hip hop culture, Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow will work six decks in real-time and use only vinyl, selected from Bambaataa’s own original collection.
DJ Shadow, real name Josh Davis, says this kind of show, honouring one of hip hip’s true vanguards, “has never been done before”. “They’re HIS records, with his blessings. This isn’t just ANY copy of ‘X’ breakbeat, it’s THE copy, THE copy that started everything,” explained Davis.
The pair of turntablists will also perform the Bambaataa-themed set as part of next year’s Golden Plains Festival. Tickets for DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist’s Melbourne show at The Forum and The Hi-Fi in Sydney are on sale now. All other ticket details, and an Adelaide venue, are TBA. Details below.
