DMA’s Release New Single ‘Lay Down’ As First Taste Of Debut Album

Sydney lads Johnny Took, Tommy O’Dell and Matt Mason, best known as DMA’s, have given fans the first taste of their highly anticipated debut album with the release of singalong-friendly new single Lay Down.

Premiered on BBC1 overnight, Lay Down has actually been performed at DMA’s shows for a while now. Co-produced by DMA’s’ guitarist Johnny Took in a cramped Coogee studio, the song features the band’s signature mix of guitar-driven pop and summery britpop-esque tones, complete with a mix by Spike Stent, who has worked with the likes of Depeche Mode, Massive Attack and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Lay Down is the first new material to be released by the DMA’s camp since the band dropped their 2014 single Laced, and will feature on the group’s forthcoming debut album, which remains without an official name or release date.

DMA’s recently performed sold-out shows in Melbourne and Sydney, with Music Feeds reviewer Chelsea Deeley calling the band’s Sydney show, “No banter, no flamboyance, no obscene acts of superstardom. Just some lads dressed like kids from 1980’s England playing sweet rock-pop gems.”

Now heading back overseas, DMA’s will return to Australia in time for Laneway Festival next February. Catch the studio version of Lay Down in full, below.
