Double J Announces Countdown Of The 50 Best Aussie Debut Albums

There are plenty of Australian bands who delivered ground-breaking and era-defining debut albums.

triple j‘s digital sister station is also set to listen back to songs from a stack of them as part of a 50 Best Australian Debut Album countdown later this month.

Across two massive days – Friday, 18th and Saturday, 19th September – Double J hosts will count back songs “from a huge array of genres from the past five decades of Australian music.”

In announcing the countdown, Double J revealed that experts from Double J, triple j and around the ABC have all weighed in on their favourite debut albums to inform the list.

The month of September will also see Double J’s Classic Albums program look deeper at seminal international debut albums each Monday, from the likes of Patti Smith, Björk, Arctic Monkeys and Rage Against The Machine, “exploring what made them connect so powerfully at the time and why they have endured in the years since.”

Plus, Double J will be looking deeper into debut records by the likes of Sinead O’Connor, Pearl Jam, Wu-Tang Clan and Florence + The Machine on The J Files each Thursday night.

Other ’50 Best’ lists unveiled by Double J recently include the 50 Best Australian Albums of the 90s, the 50 Most Memorable Movie Soundtracks, the 50 Most Important Female Artists of the 90s, and of course yearly 50 Best Albums lists.

You can tune in to the countdown on the Double J, triple j and ABC Listen apps, digital radio, on Channel 200 on your digital TV and online at doublej.net.au.
