Although one of the godfathers of modern rap music (not to mention one hell of a headphone and speaker mogul) hip-hop producer extraordinaire Dr. Dre hasn’t actually released any solo music in fourteen years, a clock he’s about to reset very soon, today announcing a new LP titled Compton, to be released this Friday.
Singlehandedly creating the careers of the likes of Eminem and 50 Cent (although maybe you should have taught Fiddy a bit more financial responsibility as his mentor dude), Dre has been a constant figure in the hip-hop scene for decades but has left diehard fans bemoaning a lack of solo music, with only two releases under his name, ’92s The Chronic and ’99s 2001.
Compton, out Friday August 7th exclusively on Apple Music (because duh), is inspired by the upcoming movie Straight Outta Compton, which is set to detail the rise and fall of West Coast rap outfit N.W.A, but will not be it’s official soundtrack.
The album will feature an expected buttload of feechs, including Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Ice Cube, Xzibit, Snoop Dogg and a dozen or so more.
The one question that remains to be unanswered however: how many Beats by Dre products will feature in his music videos? Five? Seven? Sixteen? Only time will tell.
