Drake’s long awaited new album, Certified Lover Boy, will be out this Friday, 3rd September.
The pop-rap superstar confirmed the release date on his Instagram account on Monday, 30th August. The album was originally slated for a 2020 release, but Drake – an enormous basketball fan – sustained a serious knee injury, leading him to put the album rollout on pause.
Drake’s been engaged in a to-and-fro with Kanye West in recent weeks, both on record and off. It was speculated the rivalry would culminate in a chart (or streaming) battle between the performers’ respective new projects. Kanye’s equally long-awaited Donda came out in the early hours of Monday morning (Australian time). It’s all been a bit of a mess, with Ye claiming the label pushed it out without his consent.
Drake has opted for a more conventional Friday release date and has largely refrained from the high-profile, high-controversy antics that have surrounded Kanye’s new record.
Certified Lover Boy is Drake’s sixth studio album, following 2018’s Scorpion. He has also released a string of mixtapes and EPs, the most recent of which, Scary Hours 2, came out in March 2021. ‘Laugh Now Cry Later’, the first single from Certified Lover Boy, came out in August 2020 and has achieved Platinum certification in Australia.
Drake was most recently heard on the track ‘Betrayal’ from Trippie Redd’s new album Trip at Night.
