Drake Delights Fans With Surprise Appearance At SXSW

The audience at Fader Fort on the closing night of SXSW in Texas were treated to a surprise set from superstar musician Drake.

There had been rumours flooding Twitter in the hours leading up to the performance, so punters waited patiently following performances by several artists on Drake’s OVO Sound Label including a killer set from rapper Yo Gotti. The atmosphere became hugely intense when the OVO Sound logo appeared on stage fifteen minutes after the closing act had finished.

They were rewarded for their patience when the Toronto hailing MC eventually emerged and kicked off the set with Energy. Upon completing his first tune, he admitted that he’d only been asked to perform one song, but that he “could keep going if ya’ll wanna keep going”.

The crowd didn’t need any further encouragement, and Drake then proceeded to burn through a bunch of tracks including Know Yourself, Big Rings, Jumpman (twice, with the second rendition featuring Metro Boomin), and Back To Back.

Before he finished his set with a huge rendition of Summer Sixteen he officially announced plans for a tour following his next album’s release. Although Drake was not forthcoming with any further details of the tour itself, he did say that his upcoming album Views From The Six, is coming in “I don’t know how many weeks”.

There was no room for Hotline Bling, with the gig ending to mixture of cheers and boos, with some audience members expecting the cult hit to be the final song of the set. See fan-shot footage of the set, below.

While Drake didn’t perform any new material from the upcoming album, following the SXSW appearance members of OVO shared a Drake-featuring song, titled Come and See Me.
