Drake Wants To "Chop Down" Nick Kyrgios, Kyrgios Just Wants To Be Mates

Canadian rapper Drake has broken his silence on Australian tennis whiz-kid Nick Kyrgios‘ claim that he “came out really flat” during one of his recent Wimbledon matches because he was listening to Drake’s music before taking to the court. Kyrgios claimed that Drake’s tunes just “didn’t do the job”.

As Stereogum report, during an interview discussing his hosting role at ESPN‘s annual sporting awards the ESPYs this week, Drake took aim at Kyrgios after being asked about which international sportspeople he would like to meet.

“I also want to meet this guy that says that he lost because he listened to my music,” Drake said. “I also want to meet that guy and look him in the eye and see exactly who he is as a man and size him up and then chop him right down. Nick whatever-his-name-is. ’Cause he didn’t win, so that’s how he’s going to be remembered: ‘Nick whatever-his-name-is’.”

It’s unclear as to whether or not Drake knows that Kyrgios actually went on to win his four-set Drake-inspired match against Czechoslovakia’s Jirí Veselý, which set him up for that stunning victory over former world number 1 Rafael Nadal. Kyrgios did bow out of the tournament after losing to Drake’s fellow Canadian Milos Raonic in the semi finals, so there was some kind of Canadian poetic justice at work.

Kyrgios has since taken to his Twitter account to say that he actually loves Drake’s music, and only meant that his tennis game was a little flat during his match against Veselý. “Let’s be clear. I like Drake – love his music, just said I was a little flat, ended up winning that match. No blame game here,” Kyrgios said.
