One of Australia’s most beloved MC’s, Drapht, has just polished off a brand new album. But before he releases it to the masses, he’s decided to take the new material for a spin cross-country as part of a national tour in honour of its first single, Dancin’ John Doe.
The Jimmy Recard beatsmith’s new tune is already available for download but has yet to be released as a stream. According to triple j, who premiered the track, it’s “a hip hop character piece with Drapht dropping rhymes over a big swing band backing and a big catchy chorus celebrating the spirit of dancing like nobody’s watching”.
Armed with Dancin’ John Doe, Drapht will hoof it to five dates across Australia this August, encompassing Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide, for his first national run since 2013. He’ll also be joined on the tour by special guests, The Funkoars.
The long-awaited follow-up to 2011’s The Life of Riley is called 7 Mirrors and is slated for release later this year. Producer Dazastah, who co-produced the rapper’s first two albums (2003’s Pale Rider and 2005’s Who Am I) is back on board for the first time in nearly a decade to helm the brand new LP.
Tickets to Drapht’s Dancin’ John Doe Tour go on sale from this Thursday, 4th June. Check out ticketing and venue details, below.
