One of the UK’s biggest bands from the 2000s, Kaiser Chiefs, have entered a bit of rough water overnight with the band’s drummer, Nick Hodgson, departing the band after fifteen years of loyal service. During his time, Nick has been an essential part of both the band’s lineup and their songwriting (co-writing all of the band’s songs).
His percussive expertise was also a crucial aspect to the band’s unique sound, both in the studio and live. After four studio albums and expansive world tours, we bid you farewell Nick.
The band published the following statement on their website several hours ago;
We can confirm that Nick has decided not to be in the band anymore and that our show at Reading Festival in August was his last as a member of Kaiser Chiefs. Nick tweeted earlier, “I can confirm I have left Kaiser Chiefs after 15 spectacular years. I’m moving on. I wish the band the very best!” Ricky messaged Nick, “The door is on the latch and the key is under the mat…” before stating, “We’ve all had a while to get used to it – we’ve got a bunch of shows next year and things are sounding great in the studio”. Simon Rix sent his best wishes to Nick “good luck to @nickkaiserchief with his plans. I can exclusively confirm we will still be collaborating on pints in pubs”. Here’s to you Nick!
In response to this, Mike himself released the following statement;
After 15 years with the band and having achieved such amazing things thanks to the support and loyalty of our fans, I have decided to leave and turn my attention to other areas within the world of music and to pursue new challenges. It has not been an easy decision and one that the boys and I have discussed throughout this year. The band have been incredibly supportive of my decision. I wish them all continued success.
