Dua Lipa Says She’s “Horrified” at Homophobic Comments Made by DaBaby

Dua Lipa says she’s “horrified” at homophobic comments made by DaBaby during his set at Rolling Loud in Miami over the weekend.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, put your cellphone light up,” the rapper said during his performance.

“Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone light up,” he added, prompting widespread backlash and accusations of homophobia.

Lipa has now issued a statement via her Instagram story today condemning the comments made by DaBaby, who featured on a remix of Lipa’s Futura Nostalgia track ‘Levitating’ last year, performing it with her at this year’s Grammys.

“I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments. I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with,” she wrote. “I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”

DaBaby yesterday doubled down and defended his comments in a lengthy, 19-segment video posted to his own Instagram story. “What I do at a live show is for the audience at the live show. It’ll never translate correctly to somebody looking at a little five, six-second clip from their goddamn crib on their phone. It just don’t work like that,” the rapper said.

“Because, regardless of what y’all motherfuckers are talking about and how the internet twisted up my motherfucking words, me and all my fans at the show, the gay ones and the straight ones, we turned the fuck up.”

Earlier today, he responded once again on Twitter, acknowledging his comments as insensitive to those who have been effected by HIV/AIDS and apologising. He stopped short of apologising to the queer community, saying “I ain’t trippin on y,all, do you. Y’all business is y’all business.”
