The first-ever Ability Fest music festival organised by triple j presenter and Paralympian Dylan Alcott has raised almost $200,000, and has revealed bigger plans for 2019.
Making its debut in Melbourne on Saturday with sets from the likes of Kingswood, Flight Facilities and Client Liaison, Ability Fest raised thousands to help kids with disabilities through the Dylan Alcott Foundation.
There are now plans to make the festival an annual event, with promoter Untitled Group’s Co-Director Nick Greco telling triple j that Ability Fest “will be back in 2019 even bigger than this year’s first event”.
Alcott said the first-ever Ability Fest was “one of the most special days” he’s ever been involved in.
“One of the best days of my life,” he told triple j this morning.
“Nobody cared about their race, gender, sexual orientation, and most importantly, their disability. I had so many people with disabilities come up [to me] and it was the first time they’d ever been to a festival with their family and friends, in tears, saying thank you.”
