Artists such as Jack White; Norah Jones, former drummer with The Band; Levon Helm; and most momentously, one Bob Dylan, are to contribute to a new album of unreleased songs by seminal country singer Hank Williams.
Rolling Stone reports that the collection, with the title of The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams, will be released on October 4 (US) through Dylan’s own label Egyptian Records.
Williams died in 1953 at the age of 29, leaving behind notebooks of unrealised songs, sketches, ideas and lyrics – it’s all explained in extensive liner notes. The artists in question here finished off 13 of them. The idea began as the brainchild of A&R supremo Mary Martin and was originally going to be Dylan on his own, only for it to evolve to include many other musicians. Also taking part is Lucinda Williams, Merle Haggard, Jakob Dylan and Sheryl Crow.
