DZ Deathrays are gearing up for a big few months, after announcing fourth album Positive Rising: Part 1 will be released in August. Now, they’ve announced a national tour to launch the album later this year, taking in eight dates across Australia from October.
DZ Deathrays are now a three-piece after the addition of longtime live guitarist Lachlan Ewbank as a permanent member. Joining the band on tour will be rockers Polish Club, Brisbane punks VOIID and self-described “sweet and savoury femme” four-piece The Buoys.
That’s not all – today the band have shared a new slice of Positive Rising: Part 1 with ‘Year of the Dog’, another boisterous party-punk offering which features vocals from Matt Caughthran of The Bronx. It’s the second taste we’ve heard from the album, after the thrashy ‘IN-TO-IT’ was released last month.
“Matt from The Bronx, one of our all-time favourite bands, drove an hour from his house, came into the vocal booth and nailed his part on, like, the first go,” says the band’s Shane Parsons about the collaboration. “I felt bad for making him drive so far. But it was also just a showcase of how good a vocalist he is… and that was unreal for me, because now with Lachlan in the band, I’ve been trying to approach things from a vocalist’s perspective, and it shows you how hard you’ve got to work.”
Listen to ‘Year of the Dog’ and check out tour dates below. Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, 17th June, and there’s a pre-sale happening via the DZ Deathrays website from tomorrow.
