Eagles Of Death Metal co-founders Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme have given their first interview since the tragic terrorist attack which killed 89 people at the band’s show in Paris last week.
Speaking with Vice, the musicians open up about the attack at Paris’ Bataclan Theatre, and what occurred in their own dressing room as the attackers moved through the venue.
“Several people hid in our dressing room and the killers were able to get in and killed every one of them, except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket,” Hughes says in a snippet of the interview, which can be viewed below.
Discussing why so many people were killed at the concert, Hughes says one reason is that many people tried to protect their friends. “People were playing dead, and they were so scared… So many people put themselves in front of people,” he says.
Homme, who wasn’t performing with Eagles Of Death Metal on the night of the Paris shooting, doesn’t say anything in the interview trailer, but is clearly shaken as Hughes discusses the details of what happened in the group’s dressing room. Homme is helping to raise money for victims of the attack.
Eagles Of Death Metal released a statement after the Bataclan attack, saying that “love overshadows evil” and paying tribute to their merch man Nick Alexander and “record company comrades” Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser, and Manu Perez, who all died in the attack.
