Ed Sheeran‘s Sydney crowds this week are set to eclipse a record set by AC/DC set eight years ago.
As News Limited report, his three sold-out shows are expected to see 225,000 people attend which is thousands more than the 213,045 who saw AC/DC‘s Black Ice tour in 2010.
Adele drew huge numbers last year with 194,834 seeing her Sydney shows but she only played two shows, stopping her from potentially nabbing the record.
It’s not just Sydney that has Sheeran fever. More than one million people bought tickets to see Sheeran’s Divide tour here and in New Zealand smashing a record held by Dire Straits since 1986.
It hasn’t been all smooth sailing so far. Multiple fans reportedly fainted as crowds sweltered during a show at Etihad Stadium where the roof was closed. The relatable popstar has been looking after his fans though, shouting pizza to a bunch that queued up two days early for his Adelaide show.
Yesterday, he took a break from the stadiums, creating a stir when he played a ‘secret’ gig in a Melbourne laneway.
It’s back to stadiums on Thursday when he plays the first of three shows in Sydney.
