Indie folk act Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros have taken to social media to confirm to fans that their founding singer Jade Castrinos was not booted out of the band via email as she had claimed last year.
Taking to Facebook and Twitter today the band wrote, “You should know Jade quit. We didnt [sic] kick her out. We asked her to take off one tour. So she quit and told you she was booted.”
The statement follows events from last year, when Castrinos changed her Instagram bio with the comment: “for seven years i [sic] sang and wrote music with edward sharpe. they voted me off of tour a week before they left, via email. lol.”
At the time, Edward Sharpe frontman Alex Ebert reportedly responded to Castrinos’ comment with a Facebook post that was soon deleted. Ebert’s response read, “Jade has spoken out about not being on this tour. Her statement left a lot of things to the imagination. Out of respect for Jade, I will keep it that way.”
Almost a year later, the band have now decided to make a clearer statement of their position, claiming that Castrinos quit the band after they requested she stand down for one tour. They then followed up the message with another post, saying that Castrinos is doing well.
“By all accounts Jade is doing really well and we wish her the best. It was a sad thing for us but such is life. Peace.”
Edward Sharpe And the Magnetic Zeros have just released a live album, Live In No Particular Order, filled with recordings from 2009 through to 2014 – the year Castrinos left the band. The album is available via a BitTorrent Bundle. All proceeds from the album will benefit the band’s own not-for-profit charity Big Sun Foundation.
This week they played a showcase at Austin’s SXSW where they played their forthcoming, still-untitled album, new album in its entirety.
