As well as a bona fide relationship with actress Portia De Rossi, another thing that Ellen DeGeneres has in common with Australia is a love of Chet Faker. The venerated Aussie singer-songwriter has kicked off 2015 with an appearance on the comedian’s eponymous TV talk show, nailing a performance of his song Gold that left Ellen fangirling.
The veteran funnywoman introduced Faker to her legions of international viewers as one of her “favourite new artists” and rushed the stage at song’s end to embrace the hairy wonder from Down Under, informing the audience that they would all be pocketing a free copy of Faker’s acclaimed 2014 album Built On Glass.
Faker undoubtedly made the most of his US daytime TV debut, turning in a stellar performance of the sensual tune, rich with his trademark vibrato and bearded swagger.
Check out the vid below, or you can vote for Gold in this month’s Triple J Hottest 100 competition here. The song is currently sitting outside the Top 20, but recent projections have Faker’s other tracks Talk Is Cheap and 1998 both in hot contention for the Top 5.
