The Extra-ordinary Queen of Neo-Soul, Erykah Badu will make her first ever headline Australian tour in February.
With an incredible career spanning R&B, hip hop and jazz, Badu is barely comparable, in the best possible way. Forging her own path in soul music – and almost single-handedly directing the genre – since her ’97 debut Baduizm sold over 3 million copies; Badu is renowned for live shows that incite rapturous engagement and lifelong allegiance.
Bursting through hits like On & On, Love Of My Life, Apple Tree, Tyrone, Bag Lady, Window Seat and more, her passionate, politicised, polished performances are utterly compelling, leaving audiences transfixed. Not only can she freestyle with the best of the best rapper, but she will melt your heart with her languid vocal styling often compared to the likes of Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin.
Her latest release New Amerykah Part II (Return Of The Ankh) further pushed the boundaries of contemporary soul music, enlisting the work of previous collaborators James Poyser and Ahmir Thompson (The Roots, Al Green) as well as cutting edge producers like Madlib, Sa Ra Creative Partners, Karriem Riggins (Diana Krall) and the late J Dilla.
