Q-Tip, Azalea Banks and Eminem have all taken turns dissing Mullumbimby rapper Iggy Azalea and now we can add soul legend Erykah Badu to that list.
While hosting the Soul Train Awards in the US, which celebrates the best in Black music and entertainment particularly soul and R&B, Badu made Azalea the subject of her opening monologue joke.
“Uh yes? Who is this? Iggy Azalea? Yeah, hey,” Badu said pretending to speak on a flip-phone. “Oh, no, no, no, no, you can come. ‘Cause what you doin’ is definitely not rap.”
As the below video shows, half the audience erupted in laughter while the other half made a “did she just do that” face.
Badu released her mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone last week, hence the use of a phone during the Iggy skit. The mixtape features Andre 3000 and is her first release since 2010’s New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh.
Let’s see if or how Iggy responds to this one given she hasn’t had the best comebacks in the past.
