Evanescence singer Amy Lee has unveiled the latest track from her ongoing covers series, with a gorgeous version of Led Zeppelin‘s Going To California.
Lee’s take on the Led Zeppelin classic (below) sees her chilling vocals soar some true-to-the-original instrumentation recorded by her manager, Jordan Berliant.
Posting to Facebook, Lee says she’s loved Going To California for as long as she can remember. “It puts me at peace,” she says.
“My friend and manager, Jordan, had recorded the instrumentation for fun and when I heard it a few months ago I knew instantly that I had to sing on it,” Lee says.
Lee performed Going To California with Evanescence during their reunion shows last month, and says she really enjoyed performing the song outside of her own home, where she sings it to her son Jack.
“We had so much fun playing it live! It’s a pleasure to sing a song publicly that is such a part of who I am offstage — my roots, the style of music that we always played around my house when I was growing up, and still at every big family gathering, singing and playing music with my dad,” she says.
Lee’s Going To California cover follows her impressive take on Portishead’s It’s A Fire and U2’s With Or Without You. According to Rolling Stone, Lee has recorded material for a solo album which she plans to release soon.
