Now-defunct Welsh rock band Lostprophets are reportedly writing new music with the support of a label operated by Geoff Rickly, frontman of post-hardcore band Thursday, who have been on hiatus since 2012.
In a recent interview with Radio Cardiff, Rickly has addressed the rumours of his involvement with the new project involving members of Lostprophets, clearing up that he will be working with the band “from a label perspective”. Music Feeds readers can listen to the full interview, below.
“I’ve been talking to the remaining members of [Lostprophets], because they’re really good guys,” Rickly said. “I really want to be a part of what they do. I want to be a part of their second chance, because, like, people don’t really think of what happens to the other members, but that. That took away their life.”
Lostprophets disbanded in October 2013, following revelations that the band’s frontman, Ian Watkins, was arrested on multiple sex crime charges, including some involving minors and infants. In December 2013, Watkins was sentenced to 29 years in prison, plus six years on extended license.
Discussing Watkins’ arrest, Rickly added, “You know, what happened is just devastating for them. I mean really, here in Wales, so many people have personal interaction with those guys and know that people like Stu and Mike and Lee — like they are such good people.”
Rickly did not confirm in the interview whether or not he would be singing with the band on their new project, but did reveal that his support will come from his record label, Collect Records: “It’s been my honor to work with them on their new band from a label perspective,” Rickly said. “And it’s just so good man, people are not going to know what hit them when the new band comes out.”
Rickly goes on to detail the sound of the new project, citing numerous seminal British post-punk acts. “It’s like everything I grew up on — like a little bit of New Order, little bit of Joy Division, little bit of The Cure, it’s just so forward thinking… All the roots are everything I’ve ever loved from goth music,” Rickly gushed.
“I think if ever there was a group of people that needed a second chance, it’s those guys and they’re going to take full advantage of it. I’m really proud of them,” he continued.
Lostprophets’ last album was 2012’s Weapons.
