Chad Channing, the original drummer for grunge legends Nirvana, is set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame this year alongside his former band members Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic.
Channing, who now plays in the band Before Cars, has told Future Rock Legends that he will be in Brooklyn on 10th April for the induction ceremony at the city’s Barclays Center, but has no plans to perform.
Chad Channing was in Nirvana from 1988 to 1990, aroung the release of the band’s debut album Bleach. He recorded a few tracks for the band’s classic 1991 album Nevermind, but was then replaced by Dave Grohl after splitting from the group over creative differences.
The album version of Nirvana’s song Polly, which appears on Nevermind, features Channing’s original drum part. His name also appears on Nirvana’s original contract with Sub Pop Records.
Channing’s inclusion as as 2014 Hall of Fame inductee has sparked backlash from KISS fans on a KissFAQ message board, because only KISS’ original members – Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss – are set to be inducted this year, leaving long-time drummer Eric ‘The Fox’ Carr out.
Carr started playing with KISS in 1980 at the beginning of the band’s makeup-less phase, until his death in 1991. KISS were set to perform at this year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony, but have now cancelled their over a line-up dispute.
