Steve Smyth will unveil his highly anticipated debut full-length album, Exits, this Friday, 5th September, but until then this stunning, eclectic collection of songs is now streaming exclusively through Music Feeds.
Featuring his latest heartfelt single, Written or Spoken, Smyth’s debut album was recorded in Echo Park, located in the shadow of the Hollywood Hills in California. Aided by Joey Waronker on drums (Atoms For Peace, Beck) and Gus Seyffert on bass (The Black Keys, Norah Jones), the NSW singer-songwriter sought to make an album that was timeless.
The result was a collection of songs that illustrate Smyth the singer-songwriter, with songs marked by smoky, melancholy vocals and nuanced, emotive guitar-playing, as well as Smyth the rock and roll animal, with songs like Get On bearing overdriven guitars set against blood-curdling vocals.
Steve recently returned from a month-long tour through Spain just in time to release Exits and get back on the Aussie highways with his band. Smyth’s extensive national tour comprises over 45 dates through capital cities and rural towns and kicked off last week with a lauded performance at the Darwin Festival.
“I’ve been surprised with the amount of people seeing the tour dates and being a bit overwhelmed,” Smyth told Music Feeds Podcast. “This is what I do. That’s the main reason, live shows. It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to be a champion for people and this is a dream run for me to be this busy.”
Exits is now available for pre-order through iTunes, JB Hi-Fi, and Sanity. Australian fans who pre-order their copy of Steve Smyth’s incredible new album through Sanity or JB Hi-Fi will receive an advanced download of album track South Land, as well as an autographed copy of the new record.
