Rostam Batmanglij may have left Vampire Weekend back in early 2016, but that hasn’t stopped him from still creating music with the band’s lead singer, Ezra Koenig.
While appearing as a guest on the Kyle Meredith With… podcast, Rostam, who is working on his follow up to his 2016 debut album Half-Light, unveiled that he is reunited with his former bandmate.
“I think it’s going to come out at some point,” he said. “Our creative relationship continues just as we said it would, and our friendship endures.”
Of course, Rostam has also been working with HAIM, Lykke Li and Dirty Projectors just to name a few, but this Koenig collab might come as a surprise people. Rather annoyingly, Rostam didn’t reveal whether the collab would be used for his upcoming solo stuff or for Vampire Weekend’s fourth album that feels like it might never get here.
Rostam was a part of Vampire Weekend from the band’s inception to 2016, and contributed to the band’s first, and so far only, three albums – Vampire Weekend, Contra and Modern Vampires of the City.
As for Vampire Weekend’s new music, the band’s new label, Sony, said that we’d have new music from them by the end of Q3 – which ended in September. We have zilch. But Koenig has also said that the album is done, so we’re not sure what they’re bloody waiting for.
Vampire Weekend were last in the country for a mammoth headlining set at Splendour In The Grass earlier this year.
